Frequently asked questions
High Cube Containers
How much does a high cube container cost?
The price of a high cube container depends on the size and condition. One-trip (new) units cost more than used options, and larger containers like 40ft high cubes are more expensive than 10ft or 20ft sizes. A popular and cost effective option for temporary use is our high cube shipping container hire. If you’re looking for a high cube shipping container for sale in the UK, get in touch for a quick quote tailored to your needs.
What size is a high cube container?
High cube containers come in standard lengths – 10ft, 20ft, and 40ft – but are taller than standard units. The typical high cube container height is 9’6” (2.9m), offering an extra foot of vertical space compared to standard 8’6” containers. See our size guide for full high cube container dimensions.
Do 20ft containers come in a high cube?
Yes, you can buy or hire a 20ft high cube container. It offers the same footprint as a standard 20ft unit but with 300mm more internal height, making it ideal for storing taller or bulkier equipment. These units are commonly used for plant storage and workshop conversions.
What is the difference between a 40ft and a 40ft high cube container?
The key difference is the shipping container height. A 40ft standard container is 8’6” tall, while a 40ft high cube container (also abbreviated to a 40 HC container) is 9’6” tall. That extra foot of headroom makes the 40ft HC container ideal for storing large items or increasing usable volume for conversions.
What are the dimensions of a 40ft high cube container?
Typical 40ft high cube container dimensions are:
- External: 12.19m (L) x 2.44m (W) x 2.90m (H)
- Internal: 12.03m (L) x 2.35m (W) x 2.69m (H)
This makes it one of the largest shipping containers on the market, ideal for bulk storage, transport, or site conversions. If you’re looking to buy a 40 foot container or need a large shipping container for hire, our team can help.
How tall is a high cube shipping container?
A high cube container is 9’6” (2.9m) tall. That’s one foot taller than a standard container, which is 8’6”. This additional height allows for taller equipment storage and better airflow, especially useful in conversions or workshops. If you’re wondering ‘how tall is a shipping container?’, this extra height can make all the difference for your project.
What is the width of a high cube container?
The shipping container width of high cube containers is the same as standard units, typically 8ft (2.44m) externally, with an internal width of around 7ft 8in (2.35m). While the height and length may vary (especially in 20ft or 40ft high cube containers), the width remains consistent across most models.
Can I get a high cube container in a specific colour?
Yes! While our cube containers typically come in RAL6007 green or RAL5010 blue, we offer respraying services in any RAL colour. This is a popular choice for branding or when integrating your high cube container into a specific site environment.
Can a high cube container be modified?
Yes, high cube units are ideal for modifications thanks to their extra internal clearance. Many customers use them to create container workshops, offices, plant rooms, or bespoke welfare spaces. We can fit windows, personnel doors, electrics, shelving, and more—just let us know what you need.
Is a high cube container waterproof?
All of our high cube containers are wind and watertight as standard, with weatherproof seals and marine-grade construction. They’re suitable for long-term storage in all weather conditions across the UK.
What is the weight of a 40ft high cube container?
An empty 40ft high cube container weighs approximately 3,900kg (8,600lbs). When fully loaded, it can carry up to 29,000kg depending on the intended use and container condition. For specific 40 HC container dimensions and weight limits, speak to our team.
Can I buy a used high cube container?
Yes – we stock both used and one-trip (new) high cube containers. Used units are structurally sound and wind and watertight, offering great value for budget-conscious projects. If you’re looking for a high cube shipping container for sale UK, we’ll help you choose the right unit for your needs.
Can I hire a high cube container instead of buying one?
Yes, our high cube containers are available for both hire and sale. Hire is ideal for temporary site storage, short-term projects, or events, while purchase is better for long-term or permanent use. We offer flexible terms with a minimum 4-week hire period to suit your timeline.
Are high cube containers available in 10ft sizes?
Yes, while less common, we offer 10ft high cube containers. These compact units are great for smaller sites where space is limited but extra vertical storage is needed.
