It might still be summer, but if you work in retail, distribution or run a busy warehouse, you’ll already know that the quieter months don’t stay quiet for long.
First comes Halloween, then Firework Night, Black Friday and, before you know it, Christmas. That means more stock, more deliveries, more packaging and plenty of seasonal displays to find a home for.
It doesn’t take long for all of these boxes and displays to start taking over your warehouse, office, yard, and everywhere else! With the unpredictable British weather, even temporarily storing stock outside could cause irreversible damage and render your stock not fit for sale.
If you’re running out of room, it’s time to find a more practical, more secure storage solution.
When Seasonal Stock Starts Taking Over
Seasonal stock is a bit of a strange one. You need it, but you don’t necessarily need it right away.
Christmas decorations arrive months before they go on display, and are displayed at least a month before the holiday itself. On the other hand, special promotions mean that Black Friday stock might only go on display for one or two weeks in total. Fireworks should be stored safely away from flammable materials, and you still need space for your everyday stock, picking and packing, and for deliveries and staff to move around safely.
Once seasonal stock starts creeping into every spare corner, things can get difficult pretty quickly. That’s where an extra bit of storage can make life much easier.
Container Storage Solutions
Hiring a storage container is a straightforward way to create extra space temporarily, without taking on a bigger warehouse.
A container can be delivered directly to your site, giving you somewhere secure to keep seasonal stock until you need it.
Instead of having boxes of Christmas decorations stacked up in the corner of your warehouse in September, for example, you can keep them in a container and bring them inside when the time comes. The same goes for Halloween displays, Black Friday stock, packaging, shop fittings and other items that you need to keep safe but don’t necessarily need sitting in the middle of your working space.
Keep Everything Close By
One of the big advantages of having a container on your own site, is that you’re not sending someone off to a separate storage facility every time you need something. If you suddenly need another batch of packaging, a Christmas display or some promotional materials, they’re right there.
It’s particularly useful during busy periods when time is already at a premium. No extra journey, no waiting around and no having to work out where you put something three weeks ago – just open the container and grab what you need.
Useful Storage for Seasonal Peaks
You might not need extra storage all year round. In fact, that’s one of the reasons hiring a container can make sense for businesses with seasonal peaks.
For the three or four months spanning Halloween, Christmas, and New Year, you can use additional storage for your seasonal stock and to help prevent your warehouse becoming stuffed full and unsafe (and impractical!) to navigate. When things start to slow down, you can arrange with us for the container to be collected. It’s as easy as that!
What Could You Store?
There are lots of ways businesses can make use of a seasonal storage container, including:
- Halloween decorations and displays
- Fireworks, for both Firework Night and New Year’s Eve
- Black Friday promotional stock
- Christmas decorations and displays
- Promotional materials and signage
- Shop fittings
- Bulk deliveries
- Event equipment
- General overflow stock
It can also be a handy place for anything that needs to stay on site but doesn’t need to be taking up valuable warehouse or shop floor space.
Choosing The Right Container Size
How much space you need will obviously depend on what you’re storing.
For smaller amounts of overflow stock, our 20ft containers are a useful option where space is limited. This is around the same size of a standard UK garage.
Need more room? A 40ft container is our largest size, and gives you considerably more storage capacity and is a popular choice for larger amounts of stock.
Not sure which size you need? Give us a call. We can talk through what you’re looking to store and help you work out what would work best for your site.
Don’t Wait Until You’ve Run Out Of Room
It seems impossible to think about Christmas when the sun is still shining, but the last thing you want when the busy season arrives is to be trying to work out where everything is going to go. Getting some extra storage in place before the deliveries start piling up means you can stay organised from the outset.
You can move seasonal stock out of the way as it arrives, keep your main warehouse clear and avoid having to constantly shuffle things around to make room for the next delivery. And let’s be honest, when you’re heading towards Black Friday and Christmas, you’ll have enough to worry about without playing warehouse Tetris every morning.
