20ft Containers
What are the dimensions of a 20ft shipping container?
Our 20ft shipping container measures 20 feet long, 8 feet wide, and 8.6 feet high externally. Internally, you’ll get 19’3” in length, 7’7” in width, and 7’9” in height. These dimensions make the 20ft container ideal for on-site storage, as they are large enough to store a significant amount. Take a look at our illustrations to see an example of what you can store in your 20ft unit.
How much does a 20ft container weigh?
An empty 20 foot container weighs 2.2 tonnes. This makes a 20ft sea container suitable for a wide range of heavy-duty uses.
What can I fit inside a 20ft storage container?
A 20ft storage container offers roughly 33 cubic metres of internal space – enough to hold the contents of a typical 2 – 3 bedroom house. It’s also ideal for storing tools, machinery, pallets, equipment, and supplies, making it a versatile choice for builders, retailers, and households.
Do you offer 20ft container hire near me?

Can I buy a 20ft container from Storage on Site?
Absolutely. We have 20ft containers in stock right now, ready for collection or delivery. Whether you’re looking to buy a 20ft container for storage, export, or conversion, we have both new (one-trip) and used 20ft containers in stock.
What’s the difference between new and used 20ft containers?
A new 20 foot container (also known as a one-trip container) has made a single journey from the manufacturer and is in excellent condition. Our used 20ft containers are still fully wind and waterproof but may show signs of wear – ideal if you’re after a lower-cost, sturdy storage solution.
Do you sell second-hand 20ft containers?
Yes, we have a regular stock of second-hand 20 ft containers for sale. These units are structurally sound, windproof and waterproof, making them a popular, budget-friendly choice for secure storage on farms, industrial yards, or private properties. These units are also the perfect candidate for DIY projects including cladding and painting.
What are 20ft shipping containers typically used for?
20ft shipping containers are commonly used for equipment storage, household storage, and conversion projects. On construction sites, they store tools and materials securely. Many customers also use them for document archiving, seasonal stock, or even workshop setups.
Are your 20ft sea containers windproof and waterproof?
Yes, all of our 20 ft sea containers, whether new or used, are fully windproof, waterproof, and secure. They are built to withstand extreme conditions, ensuring your goods remain safe and dry.
Can a 20ft container be modified or customised?
Yes. Our 20ft containers can be customised with options such as personnel doors, roller shutters, electrics, racking, lighting, and ventilation. Speak to our team to discuss bespoke configurations to suit your storage or site needs.
Can I use a 20ft container for international shipping?
Yes. Our 20 ft shipping containers meet ISO standards, making them suitable for international freight. Whether you’re exporting machinery, household goods, or commercial products, our 20 foot containers are cargo-worthy and compliant.
