At Storage on Site, we are proud of the people behind the business just as much as the service we provide. This month, we’re shining a light on Elaine, our Stock Manager, who is taking on an incredible challenge to support a cause that means a lot to her.

Elaine is fundraising for Oakhaven Hospice, a charity that provides specialist palliative and end-of-life care to patients and their families across the New Forest, Totton and Waterside communities. Their work goes far beyond medical care, offering emotional and practical support when it’s needed most.

This fundraiser is incredibly personal, as Oakhaven provided end-of-life care for Elaine’s mum in 2025 and supported Elaine and her family throughout the process.

I had never appreciated how valuable getting a place at Oakhaven would be until we were told that my mum could no longer be treated and needed to get to a hospice immediately. From the moment we walked in, the staff were so caring and they helped us through one of the most difficult times in our lives.

They looked after my mum making sure that her death was a peaceful and painfree as possible and supported us as well. I will be eternally grateful for what Oakhaven did for my mum and our family, it is not until you need it that you realise how special and valuable a place this is!

Taking on the Oakhaven Walk

To raise money, Elaine is taking part in the Oakhaven Walk on Saturday 16th May – a challenging 26 mile coastal walk from Sandbanks to The Coates Centre at Oakhaven Hospice. This walk follows the Bournemouth coastline, curving around Hengisbury Head. The walk continues around Christchurch Harbour and up the River Stour, before crossing through Christchurch towards the finish line at Mudeford.

Elaine is hoping for a sub-8-hour finish time, which we think she is going to smash!

Why It Matters

Hospices like Oakhaven rely heavily on fundraising to continue delivering their services free of charge. Every donation helps fund vital care, from nursing and therapies to bereavement support for families.

  • £58 pays the daily cost of patient transport to our Day Hospice
  • £130 pays for two bereavement counselling sessions
  • £220 pays for a home visit to a patient by a Community Nurse
  • £518 pays for a month of clinical nursing supplies for our community team
  • £1,438 pays for a syringe driver to give continuous, effective pain relief to a patient

By taking part in this challenge, Elaine is helping ensure that more people can access the care and support they need, when they need it most.

How You Can Support Elaine

If you’d like to support Elaine on her fundraising journey, you can donate via her JustGiving page: https://www.justgiving.com/page/patricia-hardwick-1

Every contribution, big or small, will make a real difference.

We’re incredibly proud of Elaine for taking on this challenge and representing SOS in such a meaningful way. If you see her, be sure to wish her luck – 26 miles is no walk in the park!
