Frequently asked questions
Welfare Unit Hire & On-Site Facilities
What is a welfare unit?
A welfare unit is a portable or static site cabin designed to provide essential welfare facilities for workers. Most include a toilet, canteen seating, drying area, water heater and lighting. They help you stay compliant with HSE welfare requirements on construction sites.
What kind of site requires a welfare unit?
Our welfare units are ideal for sites without water and electricity. Each unit is powered by a diesel generator, giving even brand new sites access to rest facilities and hot water.
Is the water provided in the welfare unit drinkable?
No – the water supplied in our welfare units is non-potable, meaning it’s not suitable for drinking. It’s perfectly fine for handwashing, cleaning and general use. If you require drinking water on site, we recommend providing bottled water or a separate potable water supply.
What’s included with a standard welfare unit?
Our standard welfare cabin hire includes a flushing toilet, hand wash basin, canteen area with table and benches, heater, drying room, water boiler and LED lighting. Larger layouts (20ft and 22.9ft units) also include space for a small office.
Can I hire a static welfare unit for a long-term site?
Absolutely. We offer a range of static container welfare units from 12ft to 22.9ft – ideal for construction sites, civil engineering projects, and site compounds where space, comfort and compliance are essential.
How long can I hire a welfare unit for?
Whether you have a long term or a short term project on site, our welfare facility hire is flexible with a minimum 4-week hire period.
How much does welfare unit hire cost?
Welfare unit hire costs per week vary based on size, spec, location and duration. For an accurate quote, just get in touch. We offer transparent pricing with no hidden charges.
Who is responsible for the cost of the diesel?
Just like when you hire a car, when you hire a welfare unit, you are responsible for the cost of fuel for the generator. You are expected to return the unit with the same amount of fuel as when you received it, or you will face a charge.
Are your welfare cabins HSE compliant?
Yes. All our welfare units meet or exceed HSE site welfare regulations, including requirements for toilets, seating, heating, hand-washing and space to store and dry PPE.
Do welfare cabins need a power supply?
Yes – most static welfare units require a 230V mains supply or site generator. All of our towable welfare units have a built-in generator, making it a completely self-contained site welfare solution. We also offer eco welfare units with solar panels and backup generators.
How secure are your welfare units?
Our welfare units are built with security in mind and are ideal for unattended or remote sites. Each unit features a patented high-strength composite panel system with bonded construction and a tough galvanised steel exterior for maximum protection against damage and break-ins.
Security features include:
- 3x high-security composite personnel doors, each with 2 deadlocks.
- Double doors to the generator compartment, also fitted with 2 deadlocks.
- An internally locking aluminium security door with thumb turn deadlock for safe and easy access control.
These features make our welfare cabins extremely robust and tamper-resistant, giving you peace of mind whether your unit is in daily use or left secured overnight.
Can you deliver welfare units to rural or tricky access sites?
Yes. We regularly deliver to remote, restricted or difficult-to-reach locations across the south of the UK.
Do you sell welfare units as well as hire them?
Yes. We offer both welfare units for hire and welfare cabins for sale. Whether you need short-term hire or are building your own fleet, we can help.
What sizes of welfare units do you offer?
We offer a range of container welfare units including:
- 12ft Towable Welfare Unit
- 16ft Static Welfare Unit
- 20ft and 22.9ft Welfare Units
- Eco solar-powered welfare cabins
